Richoux Family farm

Just Real Simple Food

How we do it

All of our animals are raised outdoors on fresh green pasture where they are able to live as they were always intended to. Our chickens have access to scratch and forage for any worms and insects they so choose, our turkeys eat all the grass and foliage they want, and our pigs root and wallow to their hearts content. We believe this creates a better life for the animals, heals the Earth by building soil and results in better tasting, more nutritious food for your family free from all the unnecessary junk commonly found in your typical grocery store. Our farm is free from hormones, chemicals and prophylactic antibiotics. We choose to provide natural minerals and products such as Diatomaceous Earth, Apple Cider Vinegar, Kelp, Molasses, and Raw Local Honey to aid in a more vibrant and naturally healthy animal.

Here at Richoux Family Farm we raise our pigs on pasture in a similar way to our poultry. We raise heritage breed pigs typically Berkshires and Tamworths. We’ve found them to be higher in quality, less susceptible to disease, and better tasting. Our pigs are kept in a paddock and moved monthly as our space allows. They forage and root for bugs, worms, nuts and roots to eat a more natural diet in addition to the whole grain ration we provide daily. We provide plenty of clean, fresh water for the pigs to enjoy.

Large Production pork is raised in confinement houses where they are exposed to loads of rotting manure and no fresh air or sunshine. The difference can been seen in the color of our meat and noticed in the texture on the plate.

Speaking of our Farm raised poultry, first on the list are chickens. The average American can eat the equivalent of 26 chickens per year but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice quality. Richoux Family Farm raises our chickens organically, ethically, and humanely from brooder to processing. That means the birds are kept in a mobile coop or “tractor” or a stationary coop on deep bedding with a wide fenced in area for free ranging depending on space available. Due to the size and configuration of our property we often opt to raise smaller batches of birds more times throughout the year instead of huge batches a few times a year. The birds are protected from predators while still having access to lots of sunshine and fresh air.

Turkeys were born to scratch and eat a grass based, omnivore diet including bugs and worms so that’s exactly what they do on our farm. Our turkeys are raised outdoors in an electrified fenced area and moved regularly onto fresh pasture. They are also offered a locally sourced supplemental feed. They never receive antibiotics, artificial growth hormones or steroids. We have turkeys that range from 18-28+ pounds.
